In the early morning hours of October 17th, a lone activist infiltrated the fur farm at 92659 Simonsen Road in Astoria Oregon. About 1,500 mink were released from their cages with at least 200 of these being breeding stock. The fact that there is no fence around this farm should help ease their escape.

This action is being claimed for the vegan straight edge community. not as a self-congratulatory ego boost, but in the vein hope that it might spur others into action. It has become apparent that the combined tactics of record collecting, sing-alongs, and militant posturing have failed to stop those who abuse innocent life. once we accept this then we can stop squandering our potential and choose a more effective plan of action.

I would like to close by offering apiece of advice to the owners of this farm, to the owners of the other farms in the Astoria, OR area (it was simply by luck of the draw that your farms weren’t chosen), and to ALL fur farmers: find a new profession. fur farmers are a dying breed. get out before you are forced out.

for crying out loud

i was in seattle a couple days ago and i read up on a group called ‘for crying out loud’. as i was reading about who they are and what they stand for, a warm flow of emotion overwhelmed me and i smiled ear to ear.
i believe that every community needs groups like for crying out loud to exist. there are demons within every community, and we need to flush them out. yes, even punk rock and hardcore communities have such scum. i was very happy to see that this group exists, and you should be happy as well.

for crying out loud is a group dedicated to preventing, addressing, and talking about sexual assault and perpetrator accountability in an anti-authoritarian setting.

vT update

we hope all of you enjoy the new “there is a war” shirt we put up, if not you can check it out in the veganTHIS store. this shirt is actually a re print of one of the first shirts that we did that we only sold for a limited time. it’s inspired by a piece that a cool activist and street artist in the Philippines did for us. you can see the original picture in the Art section of the vT site. we were very grateful and flattered that this piece was done in the name of veganTHIS. org.

we are currently working on our next design. the design is all done, we are just going over last minute details and finalizing shirt colors and things like that. what is the design, you ask? you will have to wait and see for yourself! it was only a matter of time until mother earth’s soldiers started to fight back to defend her life. until the animals of the world rose up and took action into their own hands. humyns have been exploiting animals for our entire existence, time has come for the exploitation to end. as 7 generations put it, ‘if war will bring the end, then war it must be” the shirt very much has the same idea as this idea. i think you will be into it.

veganTHIS have moved around quite a bit the past month, but we have ended up calling the great north west home for now. while we miss our california friends and we give our support to them and the best of luck to the activists facing fbi repression and grand juries, it was time to move on. we have been tabling quite a few shows since we have been here. Portlands MDC has taken a liking to us and has invited veganTHIS to table at all of their local shows, this is a very good opportunity to do some vegan outreach to punks of the north west and we are very happy to do so! a lot of house show and basement show venues have also opened there doors open to us to table each and every show that they have. this has been a very nice and warm welcome, just in time for the rain to start.
