Please call the jail and ask them to provide suitable food. Refer to their inmate numbers:

Nathan Pope – 372227
Adriana Stumpo – 372229

Mecklenburg County Jail:
(704) 353-0822
(704) 432-1850

the word ‘VEGAN’ can sometimes confuse people or seem too complicated when you are not familiar. please offer common options:

peanut butter (sandwich IF the bread does not have egg in it)
potatoes
rice
fruit
vegetables
vegetable broth

If you have any more very common ( hard to NOT understand ) options you can throw out there as well, add them to your reposted bulletin.

Please be an advocate for them in this endeavor at the very least. Both Nate and Adriana are not eating well according to family members. he jail, as with most correctional facilities, is very obtuse in accommodating their dietary needs fully. Adriana’s state tends to deteriorate quickly when she hasn’t eaten. She gets shaky easily, to say the least.

It is very important that they be given suitable food. The jail needs to understand that it is NOT difficult to feed vegans. It is as simple as a peanut butter sandwich and a piece of fruit or a simple bowl of rice. It can go a long way. And they shouldn’t have to eat around the chicken on their plates to get this food, either!

** Monday through Friday you can also call the number on top and ask to speak to the nursing staff. All dietary issues filter through the medical staff in the jail. BUT keep calling and don’t bend to their rules and bureaucracy. just call and demand. Then, call again! (don’t be mean or hostile however, please… that will get us nowhere.) The fact that they will receive a serious influx of calls should in itself bring about results. **

Generation V

Saturday, February 21st, 2009
I HIGHLY recommend this book to any teenage vegan, or any vegan that still needs help adjusting to a vegan life.

GENERATION V
A book for teens written by a teen. The author, Claire Askew, wrote this book while still in high school! How’s that for being productive? She tells her personal experience of how she became vegan, gives advice on explaining your choice to go vegan to parents and peers, provides suggesetions on what you can do to be an activist for animals in your own life, and even gives a list of famous vegan musicians. (We love you Morrissey!) This book is motivational, inspiring, resourceful and practical
