more animal liberation in oregon!

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

In the early hours of April, 18 2009, after making our way through muddy fields we descended upon CSL Game Farm (7401 NW Kerkman Rd, Cornelius, Oregon) a breeder of ‘game birds’ for the meat industry. Outdoor pens housing pheasants and quail were opened giving the birds a chance to escape into the night sky. The exact number that got away is unknown, but we hope it is many.

We reject the anthropocentric world view, which regards non-humyn animals ascommodities — resources to be bought, sold and exploited for humyn interests.

We are not interested in ‘welfarist’ reforms for bigger cages and longer chains or menial legislation that only reinforces the status of non-humyn animals as ’property’. This is why we take direct action: to save the lives of animals here and now — not standing on the sidelines waiting for others to act, but realizing that the only thing standing between an animal and its freedom is a latch on the cage door.

This action was inspired by and carried out in solidarity with Utah grand jury resister Jordan Halliday and all those who refuse to compromise in defense of all life on this planet. ( Jordan’s support site! )

Alex needs our help!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

As of April 14th, there are 27 days left before Utah animal rights activists BJ Viehl and Alex Hall’s trial begins. Utah activists have only raised 2% of their $5000 goal to act as legal funds for animal rights activist, Alex Hall, to afford a good lawyer for this trial. Having a good lawyer is the best weapon against the infamous subjectivity and prejudices of juries (be it racial, sexist, or political). This is strongly a political trial.

Alex Hall is being charged to have allegedly participated in a mink liberation and an attempted mink liberation. He, as well as BJ Viehl, are being charged with AETA, the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. This legislation is demonizing of the animal rights movement and targets ideology, not tactics. Explicitly stated in the legislation itself it states that nonviolent acts which cause no bodily harm and yet which cause disruption of animal enterprise profits is terrorism. AETA is legislation which enhances the punishments of crimes according to one’s ideology, not the actual crime itself.

Had Martin Luther King, Jr. been alive today, his nonviolent civil disobedience which caused substantial economic losses would have been deemed “terrorism”.

It is injust for criminal punishment to be “enhanced” simply because of one’s ideology. This is legislation that labels nonviolent civil disobedience as “terrorism”. This law must be resisted and fought. In order to do this, a good lawyer must be afforded for Alex Hall (as well as any activists charged with AETA).

There remains 27 days before the trial begins. They are currently at 2% of their goal to raise $5000 to afford a good lawyer for a trial.

A good lawyer cannot be afforded without legal funds.

do you know about HLS?

HLS – Exposed 7 times in 12 Years and still abusing animals

HLS have been exposed seven times in just twelve years, as seen in the footage below. From punching beagles in the face to cutting open monkeys while they’re still alive, as you read this HLS are still abusing innocent lives for the sake of testing food colourants, floor cleaners, sweeteners and even mushrooms on animals.

Watch this video, share it with others, then use your anger to act against these horrors and help us to save lives. Each day that we let pass another 500 animals die in the hands of these murdering “people”.

Animal Liberation in Portland

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

A group of monkeys escaped from their cages Friday at an Oregon Health & Science University campus, leading OHSU to warn the public.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, four monkeys remained on the loose. The escape occurred when a caretaker cleaned an outdoor cage that housed nine monkeys. The worker forgot to put the lock back on, and the monkeys figured out how to slide the door open, said Jim Newman, an OHSU spokesman. Four monkeys were quickly captured and another was caught by Friday night.

The monkeys were seen along the south edge of the university’s west campus on Southwest 185th in Beaverton — an area near a light-rail line, Newman said. The monkeys are too fast to catch, so caretakers were trying to lure them into cages baited with apples. It’s unknown how the one monkey was captured.

The primate center affiliated with OHSU has long been criticized by animal-rights groups, who say the research monkeys are mistreated. Newman said OHSU does not believe the employee who forgot to lock the cage is an activist who got a job at the primate center.

Newman said the escapees are breeding monkeys and no tests were being conducted on them.
