We can’t let this happen! While we expect and hope most of our friends will be out tomorrow, it’s important that we start the wheel turning to speed up the system for any who don’t get out. Also, why should the kind folks at the jail get to sleep tonight while they are starving our comrades? Please call, call every 30 minutes, speak to as many people as possible and demand vegan food for anyone who requests it. 

Douglas County Jail, ask for Lt. Michael Roote or the on-duty sergeant. 541.440.4440 (I chose option 5 from the list, which put me to a real person who put me through to who I wanted- next time I’ll choose a different number and talk to a different person). 

Sheriff John Hanlin 541-440-4450. I’m working on getting his home number, anyone else found it yet? 

District Attorney 541-440-4388. Inform them that the people they’re arrainging today are not being fed in jail, and for the DA to recommend against their release today and hold them for bail is sentancing them to cruel and unusual punishment and we’ll be after their office as well as the jail system if they have a hand in continuing to starve our comrades. 

Some ideas to say to the jail and sheriff- 
“I’m calling in support of the Cascadia Summer arrestees, I wanted to make sure they are being fed vegan food as requested.” 
“I’m calling about the folks you arrested at the logging road today, are they getting the vegan food they’ve asked for?” 
“I am calling to check that vegan food is being supplied to the folks you are currently holding.” 
“I’m calling to make sure that the dietary needs of the roadblock arrestees are being honored. Refusing to provide people with a diet that is in accordance with their religious or ethical beliefs is cruel and unusual punishment.” 

It’s easy. From there, if they tell you they’re not getting vegan food, ask what you can do. Ask to talk to the superior of whomever you’re talking to, and if he says there is no superior, ask what agency oversees them and how you can contact them. Then in an hour, call back. Talk to the front desk person, talk to the nurse, talk to everyone you can think to ask for. EVERY call is important and it DOES make a difference.
