The parliament of Catalonia has finally voted to ban bullfighting-the first region of Spain to do so.  68 backed the ban, 55 voted against and nine abstained. The vote took place as the result of a petition brought to parliament by the animal rights group, PROU ( ENOUGH!) . The petition was signed by 180,000 people who sa the practice is barbaric and outdated.

Bullfight supporters fear, but we hope, that this ban will the first of MANY in Spain. The ban takes effect in January 2010. Not soon enough, but at least they have a date for the torture to end.
